The third edition of our flagship project, Rota Edu Fair, was organised on 22nd September, this time with the theme "The Sky Is Not The Limit". The event saw participation from the children of our 6 literacy centres in different parts of Kolkata, as well as the kids from Saujatya Orphanage.
The proceedings started with an opening address by the event chair, Rtr. Anshu Priya, speaking of the plans for the day as well as what Rota Edu Fair means for all of us. Next, our Commander Sir made a special appearance to give the kids along with the teachers, a motivating speech acknowledging their efforts. The event was graced by the presence of our honoured guests, Rtn. Vinod Mahipal, President of Rotary Club of Calcutta Mahanagar, Rtn. Ashok Agarwal, Secretary of Rotary Club of Calcutta Mahanagar, members of RCCIIT and RC Calcutta. Moreover, Rotaract Club of Heritage Institute of Technology's past Rotaractors, Anish Bhakta, Mridula Sengupta, Nishant Jain and Shantanu Mallik also attended the event as our special guests.
For the first event, the kids were distributed into the teams for each model, and the science exhibition started. The students presented their models based on topics like Solar and Lunar Eclipse, Constellations, Matchstick Rocket, Projector, Puzzling Parallax, Bubbleology,
Chandrayaan, Renewable Energy Resource and Extinct Animals. The teachers from each
centre had also prepared special teachers'; models, which depicted the positive and negative
sides of the centres they teach in.
Following this, all the children were escorted to the college canteen and served lunch. Then, it was time for the other competitive events. The older kids (above class 4) participated in a treasure hunt, solving riddles and maths puzzles as they raced to various locations around the campus. The younger kids were shown an animated documentary on the voyage of Chandrayaan 2, and also participated in quiz and extempore competitions.
Next up was the game zone, which included a number of fun games like finding dice buried in
sand, throwing a ball into cups of different sizes, solving a maze, and picking up glasses by
blowing a balloon. Game zone coupons were distributed to the kids and every one of them
enjoyed to the fullest.
The final event was a plethora of special performances prepared by the students as well as teachers of every centre. Skits, speeches, singing and dance performances ended the day on a spirited note. At last, the winners in each category was called out and prizes were given, along with a certificate of participation for the kids of each centre. As the children left one by one, they were given special kit bags with the logos of Rotaract Club of Heritage Institute of Technology and Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar printed on them, and containing a notebook, stationeries and some light snacks. This marked the end of a highly successful event, leaving a smile on each and every face.
