Following the tradition of celebrating Diwali with the students of Suryakiran every year, Rotaract Club of Heritage Institute of Technology organises Luminaria, one of our biggest and brightest flagship projects. It celebrates not only the joyous occasion of the festival of lights but also the special bond we share with these kids.
The preparations started with making rangolis and decorating the college premises with diyas. This year's theme was 'Burst Hunger, Not Crackers', and based on it, the Rotaractors together prepared a rangoli, which was used to explain the theme to the students. A notice board was put up, showing pictures from a food donation drive conducted by the club, just prior to Diwali,
further highlighting the importance of the theme.
As the kids started arriving, they were taken around and shown the colourful decorations,
following which a small firecrackers show was presented, with sky lanterns and very minimal crackers. The children watched with shining eyes, clapping and cheering with every cracker lit. Finally, a singing performance was put up by the Rotaractors, and the kids joined in wholeheartedly. The students were given sweets and some light snacks at the end, and the happy smiles on each face was the payoff for our hard work in making the event a successful one.
